A recommended App for Students...
Starfall (http://www.starfall.com)
4 STARS ****
Starfall is a fun interactive website, than can be downloaded to a phone as an app for young children. The targeted age group is about 3 years old to 6 years old, but it could be used earlier as a head start on letter and number recognition. There are reading sections, categorized as the following:
Level 1-ABCs
Level 2- Learn to Read
Level 3- It’s Fun to Read
Level 4- I’m Reading
Separate levels gives student a chance to track their own progress and aspire to the next level. I like that there is always the opportunity for children to try a new level or go back a level when it is too difficult for them or they do not like it.
The app includes seasonal activities to support activity or discussion in the classroom. For example, if the class discusses Halloween in October, there is a Halloween activity to further their understanding and have fun with it in the process.
I really think that this is a great app and website for young learners. It is a great resource to use with students learning English as their second language (ESL). Each game on the website has both an audio example and the written words on the screen.
The app provides a great opportunity to beginner’s reading and math skills. The app is so engaging that children do not even realize, for example, that while- sorting, they are learning a new skill. I used this website with my intern internship class and found that the children all loved the games and always wanted to use the computer. The app also has an area for parents, teachers, and even gives homeschooling ideas.

A recommended App for Teachers...
Teacher Tube (http://www.teachertube.com/)
4 STARS ****
Teacher Tube is a resource for teachers to find videos or pictures to use in their lessons in a classroom. Along with videos for student learning, there are instructional videos and blogs for the teachers to gather ideas to implement in their activities with their students. Teacher Tube has videos that are appropriate for all levels/ grades of learning. There are categories that you can filter to help refine your search for a particular topic or skill.
· I really find this app useful as a teacher. Children are captivated by technology in our classrooms and using multimedia outlets to foster their learning boosts their interest. I think having a site that is all educational videos allows for an easier search for a particular topic. On other video sites, trying to find appropriate videos are a hassle, so having a trustworthy and accessible site is very beneficial to teachers.

A recommended App for the Community...
We Give Books (http://www.wegivebooks.org/)
5 STARS *****
· We Give Books is an online portal for free children’s books available to teachers, parents, students, and the general public. The books online are easy to access, making it easy for children to find a book they are looking for, read it, and enjoy looking at the illustrations as well. Students may read for pleasure, or to work towards a goal. Random books in the catalog are linked to websites for further activities. There is a spot for teachers to explore and find lessons out of community work.
· This website is a great way to get kids involved in giving back to their community. It is a fun and different way that students are used to reading from. The simplicity and objective of the website; “you read the books, we provide the help to others” is a great approach. Having a school login and being able to raise money for student’s own school. The website is very organized and clean, also very user friendly. The age group, genre, and author are easily assessable to students just starting out on their computer skills.
